The Skate ParkBackground
In
early 1999 a group of young people started looking at the possibility of
creating a skate area for the young people of Wincanton. The
Youth Worker at that time Nichola Micklewright supported the young people.
The group decided on the name Ex-Treme Skaters. Their
aim is to build a Skate Park in Wincanton as soon as possible. After
a meeting the group set about their task. A constitution was written. Town
and District Council’s were approached. Possible sites were looked at
and after discussion an agreement was reached to put the Skate Park
opposite Safeway on recreational land. The
Town Council agreed to manage the site after it was built with support
from District Council. The young people also agreed to have an active role
in the management of the site. Financial

other orgs we can come up with as a group. There
is now a need to keep the forward momentum achieved in the last 6 months
going. Conclusion
The
Skate Park project is about 8k short of happening. Other grant
applications are currently being written. There is also now a big local
effort by the young people involved to raise at least £800. The
end design of the Skate Park will be a street course type layout. There
will be input from all committee members about the surface and layout when
we have reached our funding target. |
